Thick, black smoke billowed for nearly 20 miles as firefighters battled the blaze near the A460 Orbital Island in Cannock. Emergency responders were alerted at 6:15 am after flames ignited at Super Smart Services, a distribution warehouse housing various delivery materials.
Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, as confirmed by a Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson, who also stated that the building was unoccupied at the time of the fire.
Social media circulated dramatic footage capturing the thick smoke rising into the sky, with one witness describing hearing multiple "explosions" during the early morning hours.In an announcement on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the fire service urged residents to close their windows and doors due to smoke inhalation risks, while also instructing local businesses to evacuate."
"Glynn Luznyj, deputy chief fire officer at Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, explained, 'The fire has affected the warehouse distribution facility behind me, situated on Cley Road in Cannock. It's evident that this is a sizable and serious fire, consuming the entire building.'
'Our firefighters have been on-site since the early hours of this morning,' Luznyj continued, 'taking decisive action to contain the fire and prevent its spread. Additionally, efforts are underway to minimize the impact of the extensive smoke plume on the surrounding community.'"
